Ferrari’s commitment to sustainability come to fruition in the polluting emissions reduction programme, through the improvement of efficiency in the cars themselves and in the production process, implementing the latest environmental standards in the construction of the newest buildings on site, and using a trigeneration plant and renewable sources to cover its entire energy needs.
Alongside the intense research and development activities of the company, this dedication to the well-being of its people, the working environment and the community allows Ferrari to create cars with superlative qualities for its customers.

innovation and technology for the customer
Innovation is part of Ferrari's DNA and steers its every product and process.
Scuderia Ferrari's involvement in the Formula 1 World Championship is a significant source of technological innovation, which is then transferred to Ferrari sports and Gran Turismo models.
As well as through intense research and development, Ferrari also creates innovation by encouraging the creativity of its employees. The “Pole Position Evo” project, for example, recognises and rewards ideas presented by employees to improve products, methods and the working environment, of which there were over 7600 in 2017 alone.
Innovating for Ferrari also means striving for the total satisfaction of its customers. A precisely structured process uses specific indices to assess the opinion of customers concerning products, services, events and the global Ferrari ownership experience. And the results of this analytical process are outstanding, as demonstrated by the fact that in 2017, 66% of vehicle sales went to customers who already owned a Ferrari, while 32% of customers owned more than one of our cars.

Ferrari's Maranello and Modena plants have both been ISO 14001 certified since 2001, and this certification was renewed again 2016. In 2007, Ferrari also attained and renewed in the following years Integrated Environmental Authorisation. The buildings and plants constructed over the past few years in particular are compliant with the most progressive environmental standards.
The trigeneration plant became operational in 2009. In 2017, in addition to producing hot and cold water, this plant generated 119 GWh of electric power, covering 86% of the electric energy consumption of the Maranello plant. The remaining 14% was generated by renewable sources such as our solar photovoltaic installations.
Over the years, the group has launched a number of different initiatives to improve the energy efficiency of its production processes, such as the introduction of a new gas-fired furnace for the production of primary engine components in aluminium.
Between 2007 and 2012, Ferrari has reduced the CO2 of its European fleet by 27%, by reducing the energy requirements of its vehicles. The group intends to continue in this direction, with the goal of further reducing CO2 emissions for the entire range by 15% relative to 2014 levels before the end of 2020. Continuous research in areas such as turbocharging, engine downsizing, transmission technology, electric power steering and hybrid technology makes it possible to improve performance on the one hand while increasing environmental sustainability on the other.
Working environmental: Wellbeing and Safety
The quality of the cars cannot be disassociated from the quality of life of those who work at Ferrari. Good lighting, air conditioning, a low environmental impact, safety, noise control, green and restful areas, along with the most advanced technologies, are the stand out features of an organisation based on the principles of Formula Uomo. The project was established to allow all employees to best express their talent, creativity and passion.
Over the past few years, further significant investment has been made to increase the green areas. These can be found both inside and out of the various factory buildings and today cover a surface area of 165,000 square metres. Aloe arborescens, buddleja blue and dianthus carthusianorum are just some of the hundreds of plant species than one can admire when strolling through the grounds of Maranello. With 25,000 flowerbeds, gardens and all sorts of trees, the Ferrari campus is an innovative workplace where people’s wellbeing and the quality of the working environment always come first.
There has also been a huge investment in safety at work, through the actual structures and specific training, which has achieved significant results in all sections of the company. Particularly effective has been the programme to highlight so called near misses, which is to say, events that could have caused accidents, thanks to an effective involvement of the employees.

Ferrari's involvement in the community and its projects in the Maranello and Modena areas, where all of its vehicles are produced, are extremely important to the group. Ferrari primarily supports the development of the community through its collaboration with local universities. Educating brilliant new engineers with an academic curriculum focused on new technologies and innovative solutions for pioneering performance is a vital prerequisite for identifying and taking advantage of the opportunities of tomorrow.
This is the precise purpose of the Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna (MUNER), an association founded in synergy between the Universities of Modena, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Ferrara and Parma, Ferrari and the other marques in the region representing automotive excellence.The link between the brand and the local territory is strengthened by the two museums at Maranello and Modena, where the spirit of Ferrari and the history of its founder are kept alive by drawing visitors from all over the world.
